Capturing the Spirit
The Edexcel Diploma in Creative and Media captures the spirit of creativity and its processes and skills, setting these in their appropriate industrial contexts. The Principal Learning component provides an overarching understanding of the sector, together with an exposure to various disciplines and their interrelationships. The Edexcel Creative and Media Diploma is designed so that centres can work flexibly to maximise their own individual strengths and specialisms across this diverse sector.
The concept of the four core themes
There are four core themes running through the specification:
- creativity in context
- thinking and working creatively
- principles, processes and practice
- creative business and enterprise.
These themes are oriented around the ‘how and why’ of creativity, with the aim of developing knowledge and skills in a cross-disciplinary application of learning within a range of disciplines. Examples of the disciplines include: visual arts, craft, music, film, TV, graphic design, textiles, advertising, drama, dance, photo imaging, computer games, creative writing and animation.
Assessment
Edexcel has ensured that external assessment will produce no surprises for centres. At each level, a pre-set paper will be available which students will complete under controlled conditions, at a time which suits the students and their teacher. At Advanced Level, there is also a personal study to complete. Our approach to internal assessment is one that will provide centres with opportunities for holistic assessment and maximum flexibility in how they create assignments to cover the units.
