Society, Health and Development

The Diploma in Society, Health and Development teaches young people about the work, values, attributes and attitudes of the health, justice, children and young people and care sectors which care for and support individuals, families, groups, communities and society. It will also raise awareness amongst learners of the range of rewarding career opportunities that exist across the four sectors.

Through completing the Principal Learning, learners will:

  • explore the four sectors and the principles and values on which they operate
  • investigate the importance of team work and clear communication
  • assess the factors involved in growth, development and healthy living
  • develop an understanding of anti-social and offending behaviour
  • learn about supporting the needs of individuals
  • gain an awareness of the importance of personal and professional development in the work place.

Recent collaborative work between the Society, Health and Development DDP, Edexcel and employer representatives drawn from the sector and QCA has set in motion an exciting Diploma project.  The work will enable the very latest thinking on teaching and assessment guidance to be incorporated into the Sample Assessment Materials and other delivery support materials for the Principal Learning qualifications in Society Health and Development. The outputs of the project will include, for example, up to the minute contexts for the assessment of units, the identification of linked or themed units, the recognition of best evidence, together with best practice for employer involvement and engagement. The intention is to bring the learning to life, ensuring full sector coverage and a coherent learning experience in line with the vision and spirit of the Principal Learning.

This new work will mean that the Edexcel Sample Assessment Materials will now be available to centres from late July and posted on the Edexcel website. The Sample Assessment Materials will be released in phased stages as they are completed, tying them in with teaching schedules.

These sample assessment materials have been produced to support the specification.

Their aim is to provide the candidates and centres with a general impression and flavour of the actual question papers and the mark schemes in advance of the first operational examinations
