Minor revisions are currently being made to the L1 and L2 Projects and L3 Extended Project as a result of feedback from Edexcel's piloting of the qualifications. Revised versions of the specifications will be published here as soon as they are ready. We anticipate this will done by 1 September 2008

The Project is an essential component of the Diploma, in addition to its availability on a stand-alone basis.


When it is part of the Diploma, the Project needs to be related to the Principal Learning component of the Diploma.

Level 1 and 2 Projects

  • Foundation Level Diplomas require achievement of a Project at Level 1 or higher
  • Higher Level Diplomas require achievement of a Project at Level 2
  • Level 1 and 2 Projects each allow learners 60 GLH

Level 3 Extended Project

  • Advanced Level Diplomas require achievement of the Extended Project and allow learners 120 GLH

UCAS tariff points for the Extended Project are

Tariff points for the Extended Project come into effect for entry to higher education in 2009.

Pilots

The Edexcel pilot specifications for the Projects at Levels 1 and 2 will begin in September 2007 and will continue until July 2009.

The Level 3 Extended Project pilot began in September 2006 and will conclude in 2008.  Feedback in the first few months has been extremely encouraging.
